    Dr. Ali Kattan, Ph.D

    My academic qualifications are in computer sciences (B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D.). However, my academic experience is blended in nature with strong ties to Engineering, Neuroscience, Education as well as the industry. Computer sciences have matured to the extent that you can hardly think of any field of science that doesn’t rely on computing in a way or another. Computer science has become a facilitator for other diverse fields of science not to mention that many of these other fields of science are starting to have a strong influence on the methods and techniques used in computer sciences. Computational Intelligence for instance is one such field that is affected by ideas from biology and physics.

    Academically, I specialize in Artificial Intelligence and parallel implementation focusing on Optimization, Computational Intelligence and Artificial Neural Networks. This is not limited to theoretical research boundaries, but is extended to actual implementation in the form of usable software to apply the ideas and concepts to an actual problem. During my post-doctorate research period I was working in collaboration with the BRAINetwork Center (link) at Universiti Sains Malaysia to facilitate for value added tools for neuroscientists in the form of decision support systems and expert systems. Advances in neuroimaging technologies and other instrumentations such as EEG, Motion Analysis Systems, etc. have enabled Neurologists to conduct a more thorough research that addresses many areas like learning, education, disabilities, brain injuries, etc. Most of these technologies provide a form of digital output data using special software. This data can be further analyzed and studied to provide yet more insights and provide researchers with value added information.
